Clouds, Contrails, Sun
The ‘dramatic cloud shot’ is among the all-time biggest clichés in photography, especially now that people have stumbled onto Instagram effects, but I’m nonetheless increasingly drawn to them as a symbol of hope and life.
Lately, my work has often felt somewhat dark and morbid, and I’m trying to focus on clouds, particularly in combination with contrails, as a counter to my moodier/stranger still-life pictures.
As I’ve advanced my technical skills and clarified my vision of what I want to say, it’s becoming increasingly important for me to be more deliberate in building my body of work, and this cloud series is part of that. I’ll always be spontaneous when shooting, courtesy of my experience in street photography, but I’ve seen enormous personal and portfolio benefits from putting a bigger emphasis on themes.
